The Shawshank Redemption : A Sneak Peek

As the title suggests, it is about redemption. Not redemption from the crazy hectic college life or the boring world(well, someone had to say it) ,it’s about the redemption of an innocent prisoner known as Andy Dufresne from the gloomy gigantic walls of the Shawshank State Penitentiary. The plot is set in the late 1940s while the movie came out in 1994. Andy Dufresne, played by Tim Robbins, was an acclaimed banker until he was convicted of murdering his wife and his secret lover despite his pleads of innocence. He is sentenced to two consecutive life sentences at the Shawshank prison. In the prison, he finds a friend in Ellis Redding, a fellow influential prisoner played by the great Morgan Freeman. But life isn’t peaceful in prison as you know it. Andy is frequently assaulted by a group of fellow prisoners while doing his prison duties.

Two years later, Andy overhears the captain of the guards, Byron Hadley complaining about being taxed on inheritance and being a banker, offers him to shelter the money legally. Andy soon becomes a star among the prison officials and uses this to get rid of the bullies and prison duties. He also becomes a personal banker for the warden, Norton.  And things looked like it was going well for Andy. Tommy Williams is incarcerated for burglary in 1965. Andy and Ellis become good friends with Tommy. A year later, Tommy reveals that his cellmate at another cell claimed responsibility for the murders for which Andy was convicted. When Andy takes this matter to Norton, he not only refuses to listen to him but also had Bradley murder Tommy. The coming years were sour for Andy. One day, Andy tells Ellis that he dreams of living in a Mexican coastal town and also tells him to go to a place to retrieve his package. The next day, the guards find Andy’s cell empty. The same day the State police takes Hadley into custody and Norton commits suicide to avoid arrest. The way Andy redeems himself and his plan is just a masterpiece. And don’t miss out the prison business and Brooks.
