The Association of Production Engineers (TAPE) Inauguration was conducted on August 29th, 2019, in the Seminar Hall, new PT Dept Building. It was presided over by students and eminent professors of the department including, Dean Dr. T. Thiyagarajan, HOD& TAPE President Dr. R. Sivaramakrishnan, TAPE Vice President Dr. P. Karthikeyan & Former Dean & HOD Dr. A. Rajadurai. The chief guest was Dr. N. Seetharaman, Scientists ‘G’, CVRDE, Avadi. Dr. N. Seetharaman is an alumnus of MIT, and pursued B. Tech Automobile and Ph.D. from Production Technology.



The function started with the rendering of ‘Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu’. Dr. R. Sivaramakrishnan gave the welcome address. He spoke about the advent of TAPE and the founder of TAPE, Dr. Peer Mohammed, former HOD of the department. TAPE was brought to existence as a technical forum to enrich the knowledge of students, hone leadership skills, enhance human resources and inter personal skills. He mentioned that a student is made of 60% inter personal skills and 40% of technical knowledge. The HOD proudly stated that the department’s abbreviation PT for Production Technology also stands for ‘Perfectly trained’. This name was given by Dr. K B Narayanan from Electronics & Instrumentation Department as students from this department are disciplined and determined.



Then, Mr. K. R. Prashanth, Chairman of Production Technology spoke in detail about the association’s activities. The main aim of TAPE is to establish a close relation between teachers and students. TAPE also organises sessions for various exams such as GATE, CAT, IAS, IES GRE & GMAT. TAPE also conducts various sessions on weekends to train students by giving Mock Interviews, Stress Interviews and Aptitude tests. The association also ensures the placement of students in reputed firms.

Mementos were presented to the chief guest and Dean. The Dean of MIT, Dr. T Thiyagarajan was called to deliver the Presidential Address. He called Dr. R. Sivaramakrishnan as a ‘symbol of research mind’ and applauded him for bringing state of art robotic facilities to the department for the exponential growth and training of students. He went on to give an important mantra called ‘TNSAVVIP’ where T – Travel in an unexplored path, N – Nobility, S – Success and failure, A – Adaptability, V – Vision, V – Vigour, I – Innovative & P – Passion. All these parameters rest on the student and he/she must implement it in order to achieve the goal they aspire for.

Dr. P. Karthikeyan, Vice President of TAPE, introduced the Chief Guest Dr. N. Seetharaman, Scientists ‘G’, CVRDE, Avadi. Dr. N. Seetharaman is an alumnus of MIT, and pursued B. Tech Automobile, M. Tech Modelling and Ph.D. from Production Technology. His guide was none other than Dr. R. Sivaramakrishnan. The Defence Research Development Organization of India (DRDO) and the Defence Research and Technology Office, Singapore, had together developed an unmanned ground vehicle that can be used during nuclear blasts and wars for a reconnaissance to help find injured people. The project was executed at the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), Chennai, and Dr. N. Seetharaman was the manager and scientist in charge of this huge project. Dr. N. Seetharaman has written and published around 15-20 articles and is a proud alumnus of the department. Dr. P. Karthikeyan extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and thanked him for attending the inauguration midst his busy schedule.



Dr. N. Seetharaman then delivered the inaugural address. He spoke about his wonderful memories in MIT, how friendly the department is and the contribution the professors have done to make him who he is today. Dr. N. Seetharaman spoke about his professors from IIT-M, Dr. Ashokan and Dr. Natarajan, who were instrumental in guiding him to his goal. He spoke about the state of art facilities in our college and urged the students of the department to hone their skills with respect to placements and post graduate studies. He thanked the HOD for imbibing passion and interest in the field of Mechatronics and Robotics into him and spoke highly of Dr. A. Rajadurai and told him that he always admired and revered the former dean for his swift actions and approachability. He ended his speech by wishing the students a bright future with success in all their endeavours.

Mr. P Mugeshwar, Vice Chairman of TAPE delivered the Vote of Thanks. He thanked the Dean, HOD and all the teachers who attended the inauguration. He further urged the students to make use of the resources extended by TAPE. He thanked the students who attended the inauguration.

The inauguration ended with the rendering of the National Anthem.
