The Maker Party

By Divya Vasudevan, The MIT Quill

We are all makers! We are all creators! But how many of us really know what the trending development is? Or about the innovations made recently? How many of us spend time to know something new?

Well a few of us do show interest in figuring out new things but sooner or later lose track and give up.  Here comes the most awaited “MAKER PARTY-CHENNAI”, a global event and an important event for MIT for it is happening at our college, organized specifically by MozMIT (The Mozilla club of MIT) and CSMIT.

What exactly is Maker Party?

It is a flagship event hosted by Mozilla throughout the world. It is a global campaign where all innovators, various organisations, enthusiastic web developers get to meet various people who want to learn and contribute .They demonstrate, teach and finally with a hands on experience they let us “make”. Every new contributor is trained by mentors. So in a nutshell this is an initiative to unite all makers where they can share, spread and thus increase the web literacy.

How important is the Maker Party?

Mozilla has been hosting this annual Maker Party so as to showcase how important it is to be a web citizen. It is the need of the hour to take a step ahead to learn and make and not just consume. Also this year, MIT hosts the event and that makes it very important to us.

What is the role of a volunteer at Maker Party?

Such an out of the box event has definitely a huge role for volunteers. Here the volunteers are not restricted to focus on a single thing. They are free to contribute in any domain according to their wish. They could assist the mentors in demonstration or could organize event or could promote or could learn from the mentors and in turn start teaching others. So basically volunteers are integral part of the event and their contribution plays a major role in the success of the event.

Heads up MITians! As far as opportunities go, this is a golden one!
