Final Year They Said – A Poem

Final year they said
Meant senior we thought.

None to question. None to demand.
None to fear.
Attendance wasn’t seen
Classes haven’t been
Exams weren’t much
Things were as such.
Final year they said,
Meant senior we thought.

Then placements rolled in
Interviews poured in
Worst of stress faced
While getting placed
While projects reviewed
And demos previewed
Final year they said,
Meant senior we thought.

Odd sem flew by,
Final sem came by
The stakes were still high
With every day passing by
But little did we fear
Till reality struck
That when they said final year,
They were literal af.

Final mitafest to rock
Final homefest to feast
Final symposium to boast
Final alumni meet to host
Final meals to share
Final tags to wear
Final year they said,
And were literal af.

Final pics to snap
Final labs to nap
Final memories to make
Final classes to bunk
Final fruitniks to shake
Final buns to dunk
Final year they said,
And were literal af.

Final juniors to relate
Final chats to create
Final fights to resolve
Final dramas to involve
Final hostel to live in
Final emotions to give in
Final year they said,
And were literal af.

When four years of college
Seems to flee like a jet
And senior-junior bondage
Is the strongest it can get
Though mind knows the fact
That life is ahead,
Yet heart fails to budge.

Leaving all these said
I am trying not to grieve
For it’s time to leave.
How stupid we were
Not a clue we had
Final year they said,
Meant senior we thought.

With a heavy heart,

A Stupid Final year.
