The most expected day for the hostelers of MIT finally arrived on March 23. With serial lights already decorating all the hostels one week prior to the event, Homefest preparations had already started. The stage was set and our final years duly occupied the anchoring spot. Song dedications had started from the previous day which created a buzz. With all the joy and expectations, The MIT Hostels entered into Homefest ‘18.

DAY 1 :
Homefest started by 5 in the evening. With snacks distributed around 5 pm, Tamil Mandram people were getting ready to give us the surprise of the day. Yes, the Pro Show which began by 8.00 pm at OAT was a complete entertainment, courtesy Tamil Mandram. There was Silambam, a soulful poem being recited, and a drama by first years, “Manitharai Thedi”. Also, Parai, which was played in the background became an instant favorite. The ultimate moment of the day was the first year girls performing stunts with fire. Students from all the nine departments and four years came together to perform the Mega Dance which continued for around 25 minutes and it was exciting and entertaining. There was the screening of the short film, “Kallooriyil oru naal” and a beautiful song was dedicated to the Final year seniors. Everyone in OAT became teary-eyed by the end of the screening. Finally the day came to an end with a rocking DJ night.

DAY 2 :
All the hostellers woke up to the refreshing beats of Chenda Melam. All the exciting events began one after the other. Fun games like Puthayalai thedi, Pesamal pesu, Mettukku paatu eluthu, Varthai uruvakku, Aduthaduthu adukku, Inai arindhu padi and Oru porul panmozhi were conducted by Tamil Mandram volunteers and students from all the years participated actively. Sack race, Muruku kadithal, three legged race and slow cycling were conducted and the morning session of day 2 ended with lots of laughter and smiles. In the afternoon, Pot pouri, Solo dance, Duo and Foot loose were held at the Rajam Hall. Then, there were Variety and Dance performance by the hostellers representing different hostels like Vaigai, Kaveri, Ponni, Thamirabharani, Bhavani, Birla, Amaravathi and Marutham. Marutham boys were the winners of both the events.

DAY 3 :
Last day of the last fest of the year started with a bang. All students wore traditional costumes and made the day even more colorful. Pongal was made in a traditional manner representing each hostel and Kaveri girls made the best one. Dance was the part and parcel of all the happenings throughout the day. Intense photoshoots were held along the Hostel Road and happy faces were seen everywhere. In the afternoon there were events like Tug of war and Uri adithal. Vaigai girls and Birla boys won the Tug of War in their respective categories. All the winners of various events were felicitated at the valedictory function held at Rajam Hall. The evening was delightful with the Mega Dinner that had a wide range of dishes served with love by the final years.

Being an exclusive fest for the hostellers, Homefest 2018 was entertaining and blissful. A home away from home, Homefest was the best occasion to celebrate the MIT hostels and its soul, the workers.
