Like my dad

I want a love like my dad.
Whose anger melts before my smile;
Who cries inside when I am sad;
Who holds my hand tight down life’s aisle;
Who is jarred from sleep by my single cough;
Whose stroking hand calms all my qualms;
Who never has to try hard to make me laugh;
Whose love can’t be celebrated in just a few psalms;
Who is my mentor and comrade;
Whose mere being there makes me glad;
I want a love like my dad.
