Flight 2017 – Report

Flight, the national level technical symposium organised by the Association of Aeronautical Engineers of the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Madras Institute of Technology, was held on 1st and 2nd of March 2017.

The symposium witnessed the participation of more than 400 students from 120 different colleges in and around the state. Mr. P.Jayapal, Chief Executive (Airworthiness), Center for Military Airworthiness and Certification presided over the inauguration ceremony. A sponsorship talk was given by Mr. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, CEO, Agni Group of Companies. He spoke about entrepreneurship and welcoming entrepreneurs who bring ideas and innovation in any technological field. A workshop on sphere drones was organised for the first time by Aerotrix during Flight ‘17.

On the first day events like Aircrash Investigation, CAD Modelling, Paper Presentation were conducted which enabled participants to put their technical prowess to test. The winner of the Paper Presentation event has been provided with an internship offer by Garuda Aerospace. The second day events which included Boomerang, Paradive, and Bottle Rocketry were held at the MIT Annexe. The event Paradive requires a special mention where students are provided with an egg, a cup, polythene cover, thread and confetti to make a parachute. The egg is placed inside the cup covered with confetti, and the polythene cover is made into a parachute. Every student drops the parachute from the terrace of Marutham hostel and the egg which lands safely with the least cracks bags the prize. Apart from these events, workshops on Jets, Drones, Composites, and simulation software were organised. As a special event, Kingmakers IAS Academy conducted an aptitude test in which the student with the highest score shall be receiving 100% scholarship worth Rs. 1,50,000 to study at the Kingsmaker IAS Academy. The alumni meet of the Department of Aerospace Engineering shall be held on 1st of April, 2017.
